Russian prosecutors have launched a criminal case against Nikita Belykh, the governor of the Kirov region, who was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe in a Moscow restaurant, the Investigative Committee's spokesman said on Friday.
There is no political subtext to the case against Belykh, who is accused of taking a bribe of 400,000 euros ($444,240), Vladimir Markin, the spokesman, said in a statement.
Belykh has been critical of the Kremlin and was formerly leader of a liberal opposition party.
