Part nature, part manmade, grand lake on central Vietnam highland
The Ayuan Ha Lake or Ayun Lower Lake stretches out 25 km long through ethnic villages in the midst of an imposing jungle in Gia Lai province on Vietnam central highlands. Its surface area covers 3,700 hectares.
|
Located in Ayan Pa district, the lake is part of the mighty Ayun
River but it had human touch when authorities blockaded the lower
river [thus the name Ayun Lower Lake] early 1994 to make way for
a reservoir-like lake, serving irrigation purposes.
The lake's width at its widest is over 20 kilometers while its deepest
depth is over 20 meters.
Jungle blows fresh look to the lake It lies in the middle of a virgin
forest and bends to the will of the mighty valleys on the two sides,
which force it sometimes to converge onto a tiny bottleneck, while
easy enough to allow it ample room for self-expression.
You should visit the lake in sunny weather from November to April
as during this time, the water looks blue and it is breezy here
all year round thanks to surrounding trees.
There are boats ready to carry you across the lake to contemplate
nature under those great trees of the forest.
From Pleiku city in Gia Lai province, it takes you one hour by car
to arrive at Ayan Pa district where you can easily find the lake.
If you have more time in the jungle, you can enjoy birds chirping
or be served fresh fish angled directly from the lake. Carp, hypophthalmichthys,
and hemibagrus abound here.
