Vietnamese fashion ups the ante
Common Vietnamese clothing lines Phuong Duong, Viet Tien and Thanh Cong have opened new and fashionable boutiques featuring hip and trendy new collections for Ho Chi Minh City ’s most style-conscious. |

Phuong Duong’s F Jeans
Designers for F Jeans, a new clothing line opened by local garment company Phoung Duong’s F House, combine simplicity and practicality at their shop on Hai Ba Trung Street in the downtown District 1.
With more than 50 jean designs, the shop prices items from VND150,000 (US$10) to VND500,000 ($30).
Limited edition items, by designers like Huyen Mi and Truong Anh Vu, are building Vietnam ’s reputation on the international fashion scene.
The shop’s high-end jeans are pricey, at over VND1.2 million ($75), but locals with deep pockets are thrilled that sophisticated designs are found at a Vietnamese shop.
Fashion addicts fancy F Jeans because of their trendy, high-quality, and reasonably priced in comparison to popular foreign brands such as Levi’s and Guess.
A pair of F Jeans shorts cost VND159,000 ($10) whereas a similar foreign pair will run the customer closer to VND600,000 ($40).
Five years ago, Phuong Dong began its fashion label F House after researching the country’s fashion industry and consumer trends.
The company has invested in production lines and human resources, and has hired more fashion and graphic designers.
Last year, F House items were first introduced in European markets, earning nearly US$1 million in revenue.
With F Jeans as the new offshoot of F House, Phoung Duong aims to popularize its more fashionable labels and diversify their products in the local market, instead of subcontracting to foreign partners.
Viet Tien’s TT-Up
The Viet Tien Garment Viet Tien Corp., known all over Vietnam for its extraordinarily popular affordable everyday-ware, has up-graded by recently opening TT-Up shops on Nguyen Dinh Chieu Street, a line that offers more high-end couture collections you might see on the runway.
A full range of accessories—watches, handbags, scarves and jewelry—are available as well as high-grade silk, satin and crepe clothing.
While Viet Tien’s popular clothing line starts at VND100,000 ($6), TT-Up’s customers should be prepared to pay between VND1-6 million ($60-$375) per item.
Viet Tien expects to open 15 TT-Up stores in Vietnam over the next three years before expanding to regional markets as well as South Korea and Japan .
The garment manufacturer plans to build TT-Up into a global brand via long-term investment in designer staff.
Thanh Cong’s TCM
Similar to Phuong Dong and Viet Tien, Thanh Cong Garment Company has bee popular for its casual wear for years, but is now being considered a fashion house.
Thanh Cong’s label TCM is selling at 11 shops in HCMC and Hanoi , with designs for young hipsters aged 18 to 35.
These manufacturers’ products are also on sale at supermarkets and wholesale centers like Metro, Big-C and Co-op Mart.
