Vietnam's southern hub welcomes 4 millionth visitor

Ho Chi Minh City welcomed its 4 millionth foreign tourist arrival on Tuesday.


Yamamoto Shoichi from Japan was named the 4 millionth visitor by representatives from the HCMC Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism in a ceremony held at Tan Son Nhat International Airport.


He had just arrived on a Vietnam Airlines flight from Tokyo.


It is estimated that HCMC will have received a total 4.1 million foreign visitors in 2013 by the end of the year, up 8.1 percent from last year.


This year's total tourism turnover in the city has been estimated at VND8.2 trillion (US$388.8 million), making up 11 percent of the city's GDP.
