Vietnam's leading tourism company gets new leader

Authorities in Ho Chi Minh City have appointed Tran Hung Viet as the new director general of the state-owned Saigontourist Holding Company, one of the leading tourism corporations in Vietnam.


Viet, 53, has acted as the deputy general director of the company before getting the promotion to replace his predecessor, Nguyen Huu Tho, who has reached retirement age.


Established in 1975, Saigontourist currently manages over 100 hotels, resorts, restaurants, travel agents and entertainment areas. It is well-known for organizing annual events during Tet (Vietnam's Lunar New Year) like the flower festival on Nguyen Hue Boulevard.


Seventeen hundred thousand staff members currently work for the company, which has some 300 partners in many countries and territories.
