Hoi An, a UNESCO heritage town in central Vietnam and a hugely popular tourist destination, on Wednesday became the first town in Asia to offer free wifi across its entire area.
The wifi service, provided by the Computing and Data Transmission Company VDC from Vietnam Post and Telecommunication Group, allows locals and tourists to access the Internet at 256 Mb/s.
It took two years and around VND25 billion (US$1.2 million) to install the system around the town of nearly 6,150 hectares.
Users who want to be connected will be automatically led to the website hoiannet.vn, where they would put in "hoiannet" as the username and "megawifi" as the password.
