Vietnam has welcomed over 2.97 million foreign visitors in the first six months of this year, an increase of 18 percent compared to the same period last year.
More than 446,900 visited Vietnam in June, a year-on-year rise of 19 percent, according to the General Statistics Office and the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism.
Most tourists came by air, with nearly 371,000 thousand arrivals recorded in June, a year-on-year increase of 25.5 percent.
The number of visitors coming to Vietnam for tourism purposes and visiting relatives increased considerably. In the first six months, around 1,8 million foreigners came to Vietnam for tourism purposes, up 11.2 percent over last year, and another 513,000 came to visit their relatives, a year-on-year increase of 77.6 percent.
Leading the list of countries with the highest increase in arrivals to Vietnam was Cambodia with an increase of 77.4 percent, followed by China with 51.5 percent, Malaysia with 16.7 percent, Japan 11.7 percent and France with 8.5 percent.
