National carrier Vietnam Airlines said it will launch a new domestic route on February 5 connecting Ho Chi Minh City and the northern province of Thanh Hoa.
It said in a Tuesday press release that the new service will provide five flights a week on Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The route, expected to take one hour and 55 minutes, will depart from Ho Chi Minh City at 7:20 a.m. and from Thanh Hoa at 10 a.m.
One-way tickets for flights departing from HCMC between February 6 and 12 and those from February 25 to March 31 leaving from Thanh Hoa will cost VND1.15 million (US$55) apiece.
For the launch, five days before the Lunar New Year festival, customers will be able to switch booked flights between Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi or the upper central town of Vinh to the new route for free. The promotion is valid for flights scheduled between January 15 and February 28.
Vietnam Airlines also currently offers 38 other domestic routes. The new route is part of its development plan to connect the three major cities Hanoi, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City of the north, central, and south regions to other localities.
