Vietnam Airlines will open the first-ever direct route between Vietnam and Indonesia next month.
A Vietnam News Agency report Tuesday quoted the state-owned carrier's representative as saying four flights will be operated on the route between Ho Chi Minh City and Jakarta every week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
To celebrate the launch of the new route, expected to take place on December 2, the airline is offering a discount of 22 percent on a round trip between HCMC and Jakarta (VND2.905 million, or US$138.13); and 11 percent on a round trip HCMC Jakarta Bali ticket (VND7.085 million, or $336.88).
The discounted prices will be applied when customers buy tickets between October 22 and December 31 for flights between December 2 and March 3 next year, the news report said, adding that the prices did not include taxes and surcharges.
According to the Vietnam Airlines representative, the carrier will also launch a domestic flight between Hanoi and Phu Quoc Island in the southern province of Kien Giang on December 12.
Five flights will be operated every week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays, each taking two hours and 25 minutes.
He said 300 seats are on offer at VND120,000 ($5.71) each, excluding taxes and surcharges, for a one-way trip to passengers who buy tickets from November 22-27 and depart from December 12-21.
Vietnam Airlines currently operates 86 routes with 28 international and 20 domestic destinations, according to the news agency.
