VietJetAir is allowing its passengers to carry apricot and peach blossoms on domestic flights until February 1 in celebration of Tet, Vietnam's Lunar New Year festival.

The low-cost carrier says each passenger is allowed to carry a branch of apricot or peach blossoms with the maximum allowed size set at 150cm x 40cm x 40cm.

Only packed and covered apricot or peach branches are accepted, VietJetAir announced, adding whole trees or potted plants will not be transported.

Passengers can register for the service on the website or through the carrier’s agent network or by calling 19001886. The airline charges VND350,000 (US$17) for each branch exclusive of VAT. Each flight will forward a maximum of 30 branches.

Vietnamese people traditionally display apricot or peach blossoms during Tet, which will fall on January 31 this year.

VietJetAir said it has recently received a new aircraft in an effort to meet the high demand for travel during the festive season, taking its total fleet to 11 aircrafts.

With the new Airbus, VietJetAir now provides more than 10,000 seats per week.
