Sapa temperatures drop to 1.5° C, bringing heavy frost

Temperatures in the northern resort town of Sa Pa hit this year's record low on Wednesday afternoon.
Meterologists along the at the 2,050 meter-high O Quy Ho mountain pass in nortnern Lao Cai Province stepped outside to find thick layers of frost coating the foliage.
They estimated temperatures had fallen below 0 degrees centigrade.
The head of the province's hydrometeorology center, Luu Minh Hai, predicted the frost could spread through the mountainous areas around the town in the coming days, when temperatures in Sa Pa settle between 2 and 0 degrees.
Sa Pa is a frontier town in northwest Vietnam. It is one of the main market towns in the area, where several ethnic minority groups such as Hmong, Dao, Giáy, Pho Lu, and Tay converge.
