Around 12,000 Russian tourists have come to the beach city of Nha Trang in Khanh Hoa Province for the Lunar New Year holiday, twice as many as last year, a local official said Friday.
Nguyen Van Thanh, director of Khanh Hoa Province Tourism Promotion Center, said the numbers of Russian travelers to Nha Trang have increased sharply in recent years.
In 2010, the city received around 28,000 visitors. The number climbed to 60,000 in 2011.
Last year, the Vietnam Sun Corporation signed a contract with its Turkish partner Pegas Touristik to bring 180-200 passengers per day from nine Russian cities to Khanh Hoa Province's Cam Ranh International Airport via charter flights from October 2011 to May 2012.
The Hanoi-based Nhat Minh International Travel Company has also worked with Russia's Vladivostok International Airport, operating two flights per month from the Russian city of Khabarovsk to the Cam Ranh International Airport since late 2010.
Tran Thanh Tu, an employee at the Starlet Hotel in Nha Trang, said that of the 120 foreign tourists who booked stays at the hotel for Lunar New Year, 80 were Russians.
