A week-long cultural and tourism event was held in the northwestern province of Yen Bai to promote rice terraces and cultural activities in the mountainous areas.
Commonly called “Mu Cang Chai Rice Terrace Festival,” the event was held in a district center and the three communes of La Pan Tan, Che Cu Nha and De Xu Phinh.
Visitors to the festival glimpsed stunning yellow rice terraces and participated in various activities such as rice cake making competitions.
Rice terraces in La Pan Tan, Che Cu Nha and De Xu Phinh Communes were a awarded “National Heritage” title in 2007.
Of around 500 hectares of rice terraces that won the title, 200 hectares were located in La Pan Tan.
The best time to visit the rice terraces is September and October, when the fields turn yellow, ahead of the harvest.
