The Easter holiday will kick off a colorful week at Ho Chi Minh City's top restaurants

With nearly six million Catholics in Vietnam, constituting some 7 percent of the 85-million strong population, Easter is no small deal.

To celebrate the myth of Jesus' resurrection, Catholics often hold large feasts across the country to celebrate. Many foreign families in Vietnam also enjoy the warm atmosphere of family meals during Easter, even if they aren't Catholic.

Easter is also a favorite holiday for children who get to decorate colorful Easter eggs, go on Easter egg hunts and eat delicious chocolate Easter Bunnies.

This Easter Sunday is April 4 and many of Ho Chi Minh City's most popular restaurants will offer specials to mark the occasion.

The holiday will be a busy day for chefs at the Parkview Restaurant in New World Hotel Saigon as the cooks prepare a dazzling buffet of lobster, tiger prawns, sweet snails and clams. Pizzas, grilled fish and grilled meat will add to the fete. Traditional Easter dishes will also be available such as grilled leg of lamb with rosemary and garlic or pork with honey and balsamic vinegar.

Customers can also enjoy a dessert buffet with chocolate Easter eggs and other dishes.

The Easter buffet lunch will start on Sunday, April 4 from 11:45-14:30 and the buffet dinner will start from 18:00-22:00. The price is VND855,000++, or US$45++, per person, including sparkling wine, beer and soft drinks.

Other diners wanting an elegant and modern Easter can visit Restaurant Nineteen at the Caravelle Hotel.

Nineteen is serving up a dizzying array of Vietnamese and foreign dishes in celebration of the holiday.

Soups, breads, cheeses, salads and cold cuts will be available as appetizers while seafood, sashimi, sushi and European dishes will be the featured entrees.

The restaurant serves many fruits, cakes, sweet creams, candies and macaroons for dessert. In addition, customers can enjoy Mumm champagne, Magaritas, Martinis, Italian and Chilean wines and Lavazza coffee from Italy.

The Restaurant Nineteen buffet lunch costs VND888,000++ per person and buffet dinners cost VND808,000++ per person.

Atrium Café at the Legend Hotel Saigon is also making the most of Easter with a buffet lunch for VND665,000 per adult and VND323,000 per child. The buffet lunch will include wine, fruit juice, soft drinks, tea and coffee. Customers can use the swimming pool from 9:00 to 17:00 free of charge.

The restaurant is also hosting Easter Egg Hunts for children 11:30-2:30 p.m. The buffet dinner costs VND722,000++ for adults and VND361,000++ for children, including wine, beer, soft drink, tea and coffee.

The Park Hyatt Saigon Hotel also has some Easter surprises in store at the Opera Restaurant. The attractive menu includes seafood, cold Italian appetizers, Italian wontons, Australian lamb, meat and spaghetti.

The dessert menu boasts chocolate cake, chocolate bunnies, chocolate eggs, Italian traditional cheese, cream and fresh fruit.

There, customers can enjoy prosecco (a type of Italian sparkling wine) free of charge and children will receive special gifts.
