Vietnam Airlines and the Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Association said on January 10 that the price of domestic flights will decrease again this year, news website thoibaokinhtesaigon reported Thursday.
The national carrier and the association said the move is aimed at spurring tourist demand.
Prices are set to drop between 35-40 percent, the same amount as last year, while the number of flights will increase, they said, without specifying how many flights will be added.
Vietnam Airlines and the association launched the tourist stimulation program last May.
Since that time, roughly 16,000 tours of local attractions within Vietnam have been booked.
Vietnam Airlines has been offering discounted flights to Phu Quoc in the Mekong Delta of Kien Giang and Con Dao Islands of the southern coastal of Vung Tau, as well as other locations in the central region such as Da Lat and Buon Me Thuot.
Nguyen Viet Anh, an official from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said, "In February, we will work with tourist authorities in four central provinces including Da Nang, Hue, Quang Nam and Quang Ngai, to persuade them decrease the tourist prices to attract more travelers."
