A park displaying many kinds of precious stones has opened at a tourism area in Ho Chi Minh City's Can Gio District.
Invested in by the Thien Van Saigon Company, the park, located on an area of 2.6 hectares near Can Gio Beach, displays 30 big precious stones, weighing from 300 to 3000 kilograms. In the near future, 70 different kinds of stones will be added to the collection.
All the raw crust of the stones have been removed to reveal the beautiful cores of jade inside, according to Phan Chanh Tam (aka Ba Van), a big name among precious stone collectors in Vietnam.
Among the items are a 3.2 meter tall multicolored stone called chalcedony in the shape of a Buddha placed in the middle of the site, which has been built since the 1990s, and a piece of fossil that weighs three tons.
Asked if he is afraid of theft since the collection is displayed outdoors, Tam, who already owns Vietnam's biggest private museum of precious stones located at 6 Ba Huyen Thanh Quan Street in the city, replied in the negative, because "the thieves must have trucks and cranes to carry such heavy stones."
