Khanh Hoa authorities have approved a five-year program to promote tourism at the Truong Sa (Spratly) Archipelago in the East Sea.

According to the program, major infrastructure construction will be carried out under the pattern "promoting economic growth with a strong connection to national defense and security."

Investments aim to make Truong Sa an urban tourism island that also enforces national defense and security.

Meanwhile, the town of Nha Trang on the mainland will be promoted as a center of science, technology, education and services for the south-central region and the Central Highlands.

Khanh Hoa Province is expected to become a city directly under central government management by 2015.
