Hai Au Aviation, the sole airline in Vietnam to operate seaplane services, is working with Ho Chi Minh City in opening aerial tours around the city, according news website Saigon Times.
Tourists would be able to combine this new tour with a road or river tour, as seaplanes can land either on the Saigon River or in the coastal district of Can Gio, the website quoted La Quoc Khanh, vice director of the city’s tourism department, as saying
The city's tourism authorities are working to create other tourist products in an attempt to attract more visitors, and moreover, to convince them to stay longer, Khanh said.
Official figures showed that each foreign tourist spends an average of three days in HCMC, which was considered as quite short.
The city’s authorities expected to get 4.7 million foreign tourists this year, up 7 percent year-on-year.
Since last year, Hai Au has launched seaplane services to transport tourists between Hanoi and Ha Long Bay in the northern province of Quang Ninh, and HCMC and the resort town of Phan Thiet in the central province of Binh Thuan.
