HCMC to promote tourism with food, shopping fairs in December

Ho Chi Minh City will hold a series of festivals and fairs designed to promote tourism this December.
Around 500 retailers, hotels and restaurants have signed up to offer discounts and other promotions during the program, which will kick off at September 23rd Park outside Ben Thanh market on December 4.
La Quoc Khanh, deputy director of the HCMC Tourism Department, said the event hopes to draw visitors, both local and foreign, to the town.
The department will hold its annual festival at the September 23rd Park from December 4 to 7 wherein 60 hotels and restaurants will operate 120 booths to introduce visitors to foods from over 20 countries, territories and ethnic groups.
The festival, which has been held every year since 2005, will include a concert and special live cooking events for chefs and bartenders to display their skills.
In addition a food event will be held from December 12 to January 3 at Phu Tho Gymnasium (219 Ly Thuong Kiet, Ward 15, District 11) where around 400 booths will sell food, footwear, garments, cosmetics and handicraft items.
The city is expected to receive 4.5 million foreign arrivals this year, up 7 percent from last year.
