A one-day boat tour between Ho Chi Minh City and the southern beach town of Vung Tau was launched Saturday from the passenger wharf in District 4.
The service was inaugurated with a four-hour trip on the Duong Dong Express, made by Hai Au Express Boat JSC based in the Mekong Delta's Kien Giang Province.
The tour offers great views of the Saigon River, the Can Gio biosphere reserve in the city's outskirts and Vung Tau beach town from the sea.
Duong Dong Express, which cost US$2.5 million, has several facilities including restaurants and wifi connection. It can carry up to 250 passengers. The boat went on its maiden journey on Saturday.
The boat will leave Saigon passenger port in District 4 at 8 a.m. and return at 3:30 p.m. from Cau Da Port in Vung Tau.
Tickets cost VND350,000 ($17) and VND280,000 ($13.60) apiece for VIP and normal seats respectively.
Nguyen Dat Danh, general director of Hai Au JSC, said his company and tour operator Ben Thanh Tourist also plan to offer dinner cruises on the Saigon River every night.
