National air carrier Vietnam Airlines delayed four flights heading for Europe on Thursday evening to adjust the planes’ planned routes following the tragic downing of a Malaysia Airlines flight over Ukraine which killed all 298 people onboard.
As soon as Vietnam Airlines was informed of the crash, it delayed its Hanoi-Frankfurt (VN37), Hanoi-Paris (VN17), Hanoi-London (VN55) and Ho Chi Minh City-Paris (VN11) flights.
The flights were delayed for between 3 hours and 25 minutes and 5 hours and 10 minutes. They all took off early on Friday morning.
Vietnam Airlines said the four flights were rerouted out of Ukrainian airspace.
The Malaysia Airlines’ Boeing 777 fell from the sky near the town of Torez in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine on Thursday.
US intelligence officials confirmed the plane was shot down by a surface-to-air missile near Ukraine's border with Russia, but have yet to determine who fired it.
