A "banquet of flowers" awaits year-end visitors to the resort town of Da Lat, officials said at press conference in Da Lat Tuesday, November 8.
Organizers of the Flower Festival 2012 said the annual event will take place from December 30, 2011 to January 3, 2012 highlighting the floral charms of the Central Highlands town that is aptly known as the "City of Flowers."
Highlights of the festival will include a special space that will feature striking flower arrangements and a street carnival that will blend flowers and light that will, in the day time, look like a humongous flower in the sky and in the night, like huge floral lanterns.
During the carnival, lit umbrellas covered with flowers will hang at heights of eight to ten meters, and the Xuan Huong Lake will be festooned with hundreds of thousands of blooms as well.
According to the Da Lat Flower Association, the space for flower arrangements, invested with VND7.8 billion (US$371,000), will be spread over 2.7 hectares of the golf course. The space will be laid with Vietnam's biggest-ever carpet of tulips, it said.
