The fourth annual Da Lat Flower Festival will take place from December 30, 2011 to January 3, 2012.

Officials said at a press conference held by the Lam Dong Province's Service of Culture, Sport and Tourism that the flower fest will focus on attracting tourists.

A 12,000 square-meter "Commemorative hill of flowers" by the Xuan Huong Lake will set the stage for the festival that will be spread throughout the highland town.

The hill will feature four carpets of flowers symbolizing the four seasons. Installations and arrangement of numerous kinds of flowers, including some of European origin like Tulips will aim to captivate visitors.

The five-day festival will introduce many varieties of beautiful flowers and honor leading florists.

Following the opening ceremony on Dec 31, several cultural activities inluding street dances, trips to flower trade villages and other entertaining performances will be organised.

Truong Van Thu, deputy chairman of Lam Dong's People's Committee said that this year's festival is the effort of many local florists who have made the city famous for its flowers.

He said the fest will mobilize residents to use their homes as a space for flowers in harmony with the festival.

In 2009, Da Lat was nationally recognized as the "City of Flowers."
