A golf course in central Vietnam has been chosen the "best new course in Asia-Pacific," making Vietnam a world-class golfing destination.
The title was given in Thailand at the 12th Asian Golf Monthly Awards, widely regarded as the region's golfing Oscars, to the Dunes Course designed by golf legend Greg Norman at Da Nang Golf Club.
It puts the club on a new pedestal, after the Dunes Course was last month recognized as the country's best new course and in 2010 listed by the US's GOLF magazine as one of the top 15 golf venues to open worldwide, the club said in a press release.
The course beat out a pair of finalists from China for the honor, which was determined primarily by votes cast at asiangolfmonthly.com over an eight-week period earlier this year and partially by a 24-member panel of industry experts.
Launched in May 2010, the Dunes Course is a collection of 18 rugged, seaside holes that crisscross a sand-based landscape similar to the coastal terrain of Scotland, golf's birthplace.
It hosted the Vietnam Amateur Open in June this year.
