The Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu and Viet Dragon, a local tourism company, started work on a 130-hectare bird reserve December 13 at an estimated cost of VND130 billion (US$6.7 million).

The Bac Lieu Bird Sanctuary Eco Tourism Park in Nha Mat Ward, Bac Lieu Town, will give tourists a chance to discover indigenous flora and fauna, and learn more about the life of wild birds.

The area is home to 78 unique species of birds, many of which are listed in Vietnam's Red Book like the giang sen (Mycteria Leucocephala), sa hung (Halcyon coromando coromando) and duoi cut bung do (Pitta nympha Temminck et Schlegel).
