Bay Nui ox races are the highlight of the 5th Khmer Festival in An Giang Province

The triennial cultural, sports and tourism festival of southern Khmer ethnic people will open tonight in the Mekong Delta province of An Giang.

The five-day festival, to be held at the Xuan Bien Industrial Park, Tinh Bien District, highlights several cultural activities, including exhibition, documentary screenings, long-boat races, fashion shows of traditional Khmer costumes, culinary demonstrations, ox races, and folk games.

The opening ceremony, to be broadcast live on VTV1, VTV4, and other TV channels in the area, will feature a flower parade, music and dance performances by artists and athletes of Khmer art troupes from the 12 southern provinces.

The event aims to promote the traditional culture of 1.4 million Khmer ethnic people in 13 provinces and cities in the south, as well as the tourism industry in An Giang Province and other nearby provinces.

The event will conclude on December 6.
