The main dining room at Decibel restaurant café lounge in District 1, HCMC

Decibel restaurant café lounge is located on Phan Ke Binh, a quiet street, around 10-minute walk from the Saigon Zoo & Botanical Gardens in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City.

The cozy café has a bar on the ground floor. And on the first floor there is a private dining room and a bigger public dining room. The café has cool color theme with turquoise walls, grey sofas and bamboo bird cage ceiling lights.

The café atmosphere reminds me of a suburb of Ho Chi Minh City, where life is slower and more quiet. The street is like a small alley where there are fewer cars and motorbikes passing by. It is good place to ride a bicycle on a Sunday morning.

I chose a sofa next to the big mirror and a window to new apartments and a private garden on the opposite side of the street.

It was a very windy day and from there I could see the blue sky and white clouds floating between the apartment buildings.

And in the breeze, the branches of a big tree swayed a bit in the garden across the street, revealing the pink fruits under the large leaves.

I ordered a seafood pizza (VND90,000) and lemon juice (VND30,000).

Decibel's menu has a large selection of Italian, French and international cuisine. The food menu includes sections on tapas, salad, main courses, pastas and desserts.

The tapas menu ranges from VND60,000 to VND100,000 and features oeufs cocottes (egg cream, bacon, onion, mushroom: VND60,000), fried calamari (VND70,000) and verrine (sushi rice, avocado, emulsion, salmon: VND100,000).

For the salads, there is a Saigon Salad (mango, prawn, spring onion, cashew nut, and Thai sauce: VND90,000); Caesar Salad (bacon, chicken, poached egg, crouton, Caesar sauce: VND100,000); Madrid Salad (dry ham, confites tomatoes, cheese and onion: VND100,000) and Milan Salad (mozzarella cheese, pesto sauce, tomatoes, onions, capers: VND110,000).

Decibel also has a nice collection of main courses and pasta dishes, including pork ribs with BBQ sauce (VND100,000), French veal ragout (VND130,000), grilled lamp chops (VND230,000), Tuna steak (VND190,000), lasagna (VND110,000), and chicken pesto pasta (VND100,000).

Last but not least, the drink menu ranges from VND30,000 to VND55,000 with a selection of fruit juices and hot and cold beverages. Cocktails, spirits, beer, wine and champagne are also served.

Decibel offers an office lunch (except Sunday) of five Vietnamese main course options each day: choices often include pork stewed with bamboo shoots, fried tuna in tomato sauce, fried chicken in fish sauce, beef with broccoli, prawns with lotus root and meat omelets. And surprisingly, the lunch costs only VND38,000 per person.

Every month, Decibel hosts cultural activities such as film shows, live music and photo and art exhibitions by young artists.
