A team of technicians fixed a damaged underwater cable on Thursday morning, restoring Vietnam's internet service one day ahead of schedule.
FPT Telecom announced that a team of Asia America Gateway technicians began repairing the cable at 11:15pm on Wednesday night and finished work at 7:45am the next morning.
The AAG cable system, which is used by FPT Telecom and three other local Internet providers -- VNPT, Viettel and SPT -- snapped 64km off the coast of Hong Kong at around midnight on September 15.
The incident caused a 40-percent reduction in Vietnam's international internet broadband capacity.
Two weeks later, as the cable was still being repaired, AAG technicians discovered the second rupture four kilometers away from the initial break.
The 20,000km AAG cable system has been fixed three times this year.
The system came into operation in 2009.
