The undersea Internet cable connecting Vietnam with the US, which snapped on May 26, is expected to be fixed by June 17, a source familiar with the matter said.
The source told Thanh Nien on Thursday that the repair work on the Asia America Gateway cable would began on June 7, but declined to tell where the break was.
This was the third time this year the notorious cable, which is used by four Internet providers, VNPT, FPT Telecom, Viettel and SPT, broke.
In January and April, the cable, laid in 2007, broke at the portion between southern Vietnam and Hong Kong.
Similar ruptures have occurred seven times since 2011, prompting local investors to invest in a new undersea cable linking Vietnam with Japan, which is expected to be ready next year.
Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Bac Son said in April that ruptures in the cable could be caused by many things, including fishing nets and even sabotage.
