Vietnam’s Internet connection speed among lowest in Asia-Pacific

The country's broadband speed averaged at 2.5 Mbps and peaked at 16.6 Mbps in the Q3 last year, ranking the third lowest in Asia Pacific, according to a report by US-owned cloud services provider Akamai Technologies.
South Korea recorded the region’s highest average speed that was 10 times that of Vietnam, while India’s was the lowest with 2 Mbps, it said.
Globally, the average speed in the third quarter dropped 2.8 percent to 4.5 Mbps.

Despite being among countries with the lowest Internet connection speeds, Vietnam’s average speed increased by 22 percent year on year, news website Saigon Times Online reported on Monday.
Akamai’s State of the Internet Report also showed that Vietnam’s mobile connectivity was the second slowest with the average speed of 1.1 Mbps, and the peak speed of 7.9 Mbps.
South Korea continued to top the ranking with the speed that averaged at 18.2 Mbps.
