Vietnam’s Internet speed will likely slow down this weekend as an inter-continental Internet cable will undergo a scheduled maintenance, according to a service provider.
The Asia America Gateway, which connects Vietnam and the US, will be serviced from March 4 to 6, the source told Thanh Nien.
The 20,000-km cable system has encountered frequent ruptures since it was put into use in November 2009.
Vietnamese Internet providers VNPT and Viettel, along with three foreign firms, are investing in a new cable.
The Asia Pacific Gateway cable, which is 10,400 kilometers long and has higher speed than the AAG, will go live this year to connect the central city of Da Nang with Singapore, Malaysia and Japan.
Viettel has also invested in a 25,000-kilometer cable connecting Vietnam with Europe.
