Three Islamist militant groups have claimed the strike

  13 foreigners were killed in the attack, including six Russians, three Chinese, two Belgians, an American and a Senegalese

 

  "Tonight the death toll is heavy."

  It was not clear whether any of the gunmen were still active.

  Al-Mourabitoun was formed around two years ago and based in the Sahara Desert.
