Xuan Thanh Saigon (XTSG) drew 2-2 with Singaporean club Tampines Rovers Tuesday at Ho Chi Minh City's Thong Nhat Stadium in a 5th round qualifiers match for the 2013 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup.
The home draw robbed the V-League side off a chance to directly advance to the second round of Asia's second-tier contest.
In another Group H match, Selangor of Malaysia also drew 2-2 with group leaders East Bengal of India. The result means that the Indian representatives have advanced to the second round with 11 points.
In the final group stage round, XTSG only needs to draw with East Bengal in the game on April 30 to book a second round berth. If they lose, they will only advance if Selangor fails to beat bottom-placed Tampines Rovers.
In Group G, V-League champs Da Nang came back from behind to take a 3-2 away win over hosts Ayayawady United of Myanmar.
In another Group G match, leaders Kelantan of Malaysia, already in the second round with 10 points, allowed Maldivian hosts Maziya to beat them 6-1.
Da Nang now has 9 points while Maziya has 7 points. The V-League champs will take on the Maldivians at Da Nang City's Chi Lang Stadium on April 30 to decide the second club from the group to advance to the next round.
