Vietnam’s team make it to the knock out stage of the Asian Games women's football competition after a 5-0 win over Hong Kong on Tuesday.
Just four minutes after the kick-off whistle, Hong Kong defender Wong So Han deflected a cross from Vu Thi Nhung into her own goal to give Vietnam an early lead.
The Vietnamese women led 3-0 at the interval after two successfully converted penalties in the 11th and 34th minute by Tuyet Dung and Thi Xuyen.
Minh Nguyen and Hai Yen scored two more goals in the 69ht and 80th minute close the match on 5-0.
The victory means Vietnam, along with group winners North Korea, proceed to the next round. The Vietnamese will next play Thailand, who on Sunday humiliated India in a 10-0 win. The match is scheduled on Sep. 29.
Thailand defeated Vietnam 2-1 in the final of last year’s Southeast Asian Games women’s football competition. Vietnam suffered another 2-1 loss to Thailand in May this year, which cost them the historic World Cup 2015 berth.
