V-League bottom side Thanh Hoa upset Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAGL) with a 2-0 home win in a fifth round match on Sunday.

Goals by Da Silva and Hoang Dinh Tung thrilled 10,000 fans at the Thanh Hoa Stadium as the home team pulled off the biggest surprise of the fifth round.

The first win in the season helped the northern club jumped two places to replace HAGL in the 12th spot with four points and pushed the league's 2003-04 champions with three points down to 13th.

Hai Phong Cement also took a 2-0 home win over Dong Tam Long An (DTLA) at the Lach Tray Stadium.

The home team played attacking football while DTLA played counterattack. The Mekong Delta side stood firm in the first half but conceded two goals in the second.

Hai Phong jumped four places to third with eight points while the 2005-06 champions slid two places to fifth despite having the same points.

Ninh Binh climbed four places to sixth with eight points after a 2-0 home victory at Ninh Binh Stadium over Nam Dinh, pushing the latter one place down to the bottom with only one point.

Dong Thap registered a facile 4-1 victory over Navibank Saigon at Ho Chi Minh City's Thong Nhat Stadium, with Nigerian striker Samson Kayode scoring all the four goals.

Samson had the home team reeling with three goals in only 17 minutes before Brazilian striker Martin Trindade put his team on the scoreboard just before half time.

However, Samson ended the faintest of hopes for the hosts with his fourth goal in the match less than 15 minutes after the break.

The Mekong Delta team jumped from 11th to seventh place with seven points and still have a match in hand after their second round clash with defending champs Da Nang was put off until May 19th.

Navibank Saigon (formerly the Fourth Military Zone club) dropped three places to 11th with five points after the home defeat.

Meanwhile, a boring match between hosts Khanh Hoa and Nghe An at Nha Trang Stadium ended in a goalless draw.

Khanh Hoa fell three places to ninth with seven points while Nghe An slid one place to 10th with six points.

In earlier fifth round matches, Hanoi T&T ended Da Nang's three-game winning streak by taking a 1-0 home victory over the reigning champs at Hang Day Stadium.

The capital side climbed one place to replace the central team on top of the table with 12 points.

Da Nang slid to second with nine points but the defending champions still have a match in hand.

Meanwhile, Binh Duong was held to a scoreless home draw by Hoa Phat Hanoi at the Go Dau Stadium.
