V-League runners-up Binh Duong earned a second round berth in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup with a 4-0 home win over Malaysia's Selangor at Go Dau Stadium on Wednesday.
After its fifth match of the first round in Asia's second-tier contest, Binh Duong's tally of 10 points is on par with Indonesia's Sriwijaya, but the Vietnamese club remains second in Group F on goal difference.
The home fans can't have been perfectly happy because the 2007-2008 V-League champions wasted several clear chances while top-placed Sriwijaya played Maldivian club Victory earlier on Wednesday and won by five goals to nil.
In the next match against Victory, Binh Duong will have to score three goals more than Sriwijaya if it wants to take the top spot of the group. Sriwijaya's next encounter is with Selangor
If Binh Duong, who made the AFC Cup semifinals last year, finishes second, they will have to fight V-League reigning champions Da Nang in the second round, because Da Nang has topped Group H after four wins and a draw.
