V-League champions Da Nang suffered a 0-3 home loss to Thai-League champs Muang Thong United in its Asian Football Confederation Champions League qualifying play-off match on Sunday.
The Da Nang players started the match with confidence but the home soil advantage and high spirits didn’t help the V-League champs very much.
After their loss, Da Nang will now join V-League runners-up Binh Duong to compete in Asia’s second-tier contest called AFC Cup.
Binh Duong, the 2008 V-League champions, made their way to AFC Cup semifinals last year and was ranked among Asia’s top 10 clubs by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS)’s ratings released late last month.
