V-League champions Da Nang came back from two goals down to take a 3-2 home win over Song Lam Nghe An (SLNA) on Monday.
The performance inspired Da Nang team owner Do Quang Hien to present a VND1 billion (US$47,700) cash prize for his whole squad. Also, scorers Quoc Anh and Argentine striker Gaston Merlo were each offered a VND50 million ($2,400) cash prize.
During the game, Vietnam's best striker Le Cong Vinh scored a brace for SNLA but the 2011 champs failed to hold on to the lead thanks to great performances by Da Nang's best players: Minh Phuong, Gaston Merlo and the country's 2012 golden ball winner Quoc Anh, who reversed the result for the hosts.
The 2010 champs Hanoi T&T, another club in Hien's possession, took an easy 4-1 home victory over the 2005-06 champs Dong Tam Long An (DTLA) on the same day.
SLNA is still on top of the league with 20 points from 11 matches while Hanoi T&T is in second place with one point adrift but has played only 10 games. Reigning champs Da Nang have 17 points but have played only nine games.
The 2007-08 champs Binh Duong are still at the bottom with only seven points. DTLA is just above with eight points.
In other action, the Vietnamese women's football team has been promised a VND1 billion cash prize for winning a berth at next year's Asian Football Confederation Women's Asian Cup after finishing atop Group C in Bahrain on Sunday.
Half of the cash prize is from the Vietnam Football Federation and the other half comes from V-League sponsor Eximbank.
