V-League champions Da Nang had a hard time earning a berth at the Asian Football Confederation Cup quarterfinals during a 4-3 win over Binh Duong at Chi Lang Stadium Thursday.
Binh Duong, who finished second in the country's top-tier league last season, were vanquished by the home squad when Hung Son scored Da Nang's fourth goal in the final minute of extra time.
With the advantage of home soil and enthusiastic support from the home fans, Da Nang players were superior throughtout most of the game.
However, Binh Duong players, who advanced to the semifinals of Asia's second-tier contest the AFC Cup last year, proved hardto-beat.
Also in the AFC Cup second stage, Thai Port, who finished second behind Da Nang in Group H, took a 4-1 win over Indonesia's Sriwijaya, who topped Group F, above Binh Duong.
Other clubs who advanced to the quarters are Thailand's Muangthong United, Al Karamah from Syria, Kazma from Kuwait and Bahrain's Al Riffa.
