Hai Phong and SHB Da Nang both won their weekend matches to take the lead in V.League’s 3rd round, with the other matches all ending in draws.
Jamaican striker Errol Steven's header scored the only goal for Hai Phong in the 62nd minute as it hosted Can Tho at Lach Tray Stadium.
In spite of Can Tho's attacks for the rest of the game no goal was scored. A superb chance was spurned by Vu Anh Tuan when he failed to beat Hai Phong’s goalkeeper in the 88th minute.
In another match, host SHB Da Nang defeated Sanna Khanh Hoa 1-0 with a goal by Argentinian striker Merlo Sebastian Gaston in the 84th minute.
Have the same 9 points as Hai Phong, Da Nang ranked 2nd after three rounds due to goal difference.
Meanwhile, four other matches resulted in draw, including Song Lam Nghe An against Quang Nam (3-3), Long An against Becamex Binh Duong (1-1) and Hanoi T&T against Hanoi (0-0).
The scheduled match between host Thanh Hoa and Dong Thap was postponed due to security reasons, after many locals gathered in town to protest a coastal construction project.
