The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has recognized the Pham Gia Auto Futsal Tournament as an international invitational indoor football tourney.
The first edition of the week-long Pham Gia Auto International Futsal Tournament ended in the Central Highland province of Dak Lak on Tuesday (May 18).
Thai Port claimed the championship beating Thai Stars 4-0 in the final while hosts Pham Gia Auto took the third place by beating Thai Son Nam 1-0.
Striker Thaigomora of Thai Port won the Best Player title while his teammate Nattavut took the Best Striker award with 9 goals. The Best Goalkeeper title went to Ngo Dinh Thuan of Pham Gia Auto.
Competition supervisor Duong Van Hien said the inaugural tournament had brought a breath of fresh air to Vietnamese futsal, especially because of high quality guests from Thailand.
"It was a good opportunity for the leading Vietnamese teams to train and improve themselves," he said.
Pham Truong Ho, chairman of Pham Gia Auto and head of the tournament organizing committee, said, "We hope the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) will take more positive action to encourage enterprises to invest in futsal and improve the sport."
Ho also said a V-League futsal tournament should be organized to increase competition among teams in the country so that Vietnamese futsal can match Thai futsal in the near future.
