Vietnam's Under 21 team defeated their Thai counterparts 3-1 in their final Group A match at the 2010 International U21 Football Tournament at HCMC's Thong Nhat Stadium on Wednesday.

The match was exciting throughout the 90 minutes despite a heavy rain that made it difficult for both teams to play their normal game.

In the difficult weather conditions, the hosts looked better and created more chances, scoring one goal in the first half and increasing their tally to three midway through the second half before Thailand scored a consolation goal in the final minutes.

The Thai young players might not have been at their best in the game but the enthusiasm and high spirits of the Vietnamese players found the fans' approval.

Match observers said it was encouraging to see Vietnamese players avoid tackles by their Thai rivals, indicating an ability to keep calm and protect themselves in tough situations.
