Thach Kim Tuan, Vietnam's medal hope in the men's 56kg category, was disqualified at the World Weightlifting Championships Paris 2011 on Saturday.

In the snatch, the 17-year-old Tuan lifted 125kg but failed to snatch 129kg; and in the clean and jerk, he failed to lift 149kg in his first attempt and then failed again at his attempt of 151kg.

The disqualification was a bitter failure for Tuan, who had lifted a total 277kg at the Asian Junior Weightlifting Championships in Thailand in September and was expected to win a medal at the November 5-13 event in Paris as he tried to win a berth at the Olympics in London next year.

However, Tuan's compatriot Tran Le Quoc Toan finished fourth in the men's 56kg event after lifting a total 275kg, which was just one kilo less than third-placed Valentin Hristov from Azecbaijan.

It is hoped that Tuan and Toan will do very well at the upcoming 26th South East Asian Games in Indonesia.

The Games will take place from November 11-25 but the weightlifting competition won't take place until the 18th of November.
