Vietnam's Lai Hoang Phu bags gold medal at Kiteboard Tour Asia - X-Champs

The Kiteboard Tour Asia - X-Champs’ first round concluded in Vietnam on Sunday with local kiteboarder Lai Hoang Phu securing a gold medal in WOO Jump.
Phu won the event in Ninh Thuan with a 13.8m jump. Mariska Wildenberg won women’s WOO Jump with 10.9m.
Leading SUP Race was Alexander Shapinskiy and Marine Duprat while Yo Narapitchit Pudla and Jingle Chen led the TT Race.
The event attracted 82 kiteboarders from 25 countries and territories.
Vietnam hosted the event the first time at Mui Ne in 2012.
The last two rounds of the tournament will be held in Thailand from March 15-20 and China from April 6-10.
Nguyen Hai Duong, general secretary of the Vietnam Canoeing, Rowing and Sailing Federation, said his agency aims to further promote the sport in Vietnam.
“Vietnam has a long coastline that is suitable to promote the sport and train athletes to compete at international events,” he said.
Kiteboarding will be an official sport at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires and the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
