V-League champs Hanoi T&T scored a 5-1 home win over Maldivian club Maziya Sports in Group F of the first round of the Asian Football Confederation Cup in Hanoi Tuesday.
At Hang Day Stadium, despite the absence of some of their best players due to injuries and bookings, the Vietnamese team proved too good for the visitors from the Indian Ocean island.
Striker Van Quyet scored a hat-trick and Ngoc Duy and Van Thanh scored one each.
Hanoi T&T had earlier been given a chance in the top-tier Asian Champions League. In the first qualifying round, they scored a 3-0 away win over Indian club Pune in January before losing 2-0 away to Thai club Muangthong United in Early February and being moved to the second-tier AFC Cup.
Vietnamese National Cup champions The Vissai Ninh Binh will play away at South China of Hong Kong in a first round Group G match Wednesday.
It is Ninh Binh’s first ever appearance in the AFC Cup while the Hong Kong team have played several times.
