The first-ever Vietnam Dance Sport Stars Festival will open tonight at Trinh Hoai Duc Sporting event hall in Hanoi.

Top Vietnamese dance sport duos, including 2009 Asian Indoor Games gold medalist Khanh Thi, silver winner Chi Anh, Minh Truong, and Nha Khanh, will perform a variety of dances such as cha cha, rumba, samba, jive, tango, waltz, quickstep, Viennese waltz and slow foxtrot.

According to Anh, "So far, the Vietnamese have not been exposed to the beauty of dance sports. This event will be  different because the performers will not be competing against each other."

The athletes will also interact and share their experiences with the audience. Tickets cost US$3-5.

"In this first-of-its-kind event in Vietnam, the top ten professional dancers will perform on the same stage together," said Anh.

Dance sports are relatively new to the country. In 2005, artists competed in the first international performance in Southeast Asian Games in the Philippines.
