Dao Thi Nguyet took the female under-57kg category silver medal in the Asian Youth Judo contest that ended in Bangkok on Sunday.
In the finals, Nguyet clashed with a Mongolian rival. They were on equal terms most of the time; but in the end, the referee ruled that Nguyet was the loser because she had played in a negative manner, being lazy in her attacks.
On her way to the final match, Nguyet beat Lebanese, Lao and Indian opponents in the first round, quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively.
This is the first time a Vietnamese martial artist has won a silver medal in an Asian youth judo competition.
The 4th Asian Youth and 11th Asian Junior Judo Championships 2010 that took place from April 30 till May 02 attracted almost 300 young martial artists from 18 countries and territories including powerhouses like China, Japan and the Republic of Korea.
