Vietnamese squads in Russia for World Chess Olympiad

A ten-player Vietnamese chess team is participating in the 39th World Chess Olympiad held in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia from September 20 till October 4.

The world chess event this year has attracted nearly 1,400 players from 158 countries and territories.

The Vietnamese squad consists of GM Le Quang Liem, GM Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son, Dao Thien Hai, Nguyen Anh Dung and Nguyen Duc Hoa in the men's team; and Hoang Thi Bao Tram, Nguyen Thi Thanh An, Pham Le Thao Nguyen, Hoang Thi Nhu Y and Nguyen Thi Mai Hung in the women's.

At the 38th contest in Dresden, Germany in 2008, the Vietnamese men sprang a big surprise by taking the ninth spot out of 154 teams and the women took the 26th place out of 100 teams.
