Vietnam's best martial artists are expected to stiff competition at the 2nd World Vovinam Competition in Ho Chi Minh City from July 27-31.

At last year's Asian Vovinam Championship, in Tehran, Iranian competitors advanced to six final matches of the combat category. They won five gold medals and, this year, have entered 28 fighters into the competition.

Another group of big rivals in the combat category are from Russia, which entered 20 competitors in the match.

Indonesia finished second in the Vovinam event at the Asian Indoor Games 3 in Vietnam in 2009 and sent 29 competitors (in several weight categories) to this year's event.

Indonesian fighters were excellently trained in the performance and combat categories.

The 22 competitors and 10 officials from Laos make up the third largest contingent at this year's competition. They said they want to have at least five contestants in the semifinals of the performance category.

32-year-old French contestant Vicens Noll, who won the gold medal in the men's performance category in the 1st World Vovinam Competition in Vietnam in 2009, is a good example of fierce international preparation. He has studied Vovinam for over 10 years.
