Vietnam's chess ace Le Quang Liem is leading the SPICE Cup tournament in the USA after a win over 100th-ranked German Georg Meier Monday, following his victory over the host's Yury Shulman Sunday.
In his two games, the 25th-ranked Vietnamese, the top seed, played with black pieces. He started slowly, playing defensively at first but took advantage of mistates made by his rivals.
Liem now has six points, ahead of second-placed 38th-ranked Cuban Leinier Dominguez Perez, who has four.
Liem will next clash with 77th-ranked Sabastien Feller of France who is yet to open his account after suffering two losses.
